What it is

What it is

Ribbon cable groups fibers into flat arrays so they can be spliced twelve at a time instead of one at a time. Above roughly 288F it stops being a preference and starts being the only way the count fits the duct and the splice window. Rollable ribbon goes further, flexing along its length so the same duct carries close to double.

Ribbon fiber cable FAQ

Ribbon fiber cable FAQ

What is the difference between rollable and flat ribbon?

Flat ribbon holds twelve fibers rigid in a plane. Rollable ribbon lets the array flex along its length, so it packs into a smaller cable diameter. At 20mm OD, flat ribbon carries 432F and rollable carries 864F. Both splice on the same mass fusion machine.

What is the highest count you supply?

3456F. The 1728F dielectric spec is current and available, at 28.4mm OD and 482 kg per km, built as twelve ribbons of twelve fibers on G.652D. Counts above that are quoted per route.

Is ribbon cable compatible with our existing flat ribbon splices?

Yes. Rollable ribbon is designed to splice against flat ribbon without error, and twelve-fiber compatibility is confirmed.

What are typical lead times?

6 to 10 weeks from PO. Domestic ribbon at high count is frequently quoted in months, sometimes longer where a manufacturer has pre-existing contract commitments.
